R.I. Department of State website gets redesign

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of State website has a new look.
According to information from the state agency, the website at http://sos.ri.gov/ www.sos.ri.gov has been redesigned to make it easier for residents to quickly find the information they need.
Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea said the new website was created through in-house efforts.
“As secretary of state, I’ve been working to make this office a modern gateway that connects Rhode Islanders and their government,” Gorbea said in a statement. “We spoke to a number of different stakeholders and redesigned the website to have a much simpler navigation, to be more user-friendly and make government more accessible overall.”
The website features four main areas:

  • The Business Portal provides a step-by-step process for entrepreneurs and current business owners to start or qualify their business in Rhode Island, along with access to the department’s online filing system.
  • The Elections and Voting Portal offers information for voters and candidates. Users can link directly to the Voter Information Center where registered voters can find their polling place and learn what’s featured on their local ballot.
  • The Open Government Portal provides access to the department’s searchable databases including lobby tracker, open meetings, and rules and regulations.
  • The Civics and Education Portal highlights ways Rhode Islanders can learn about and engage with the state’s history.

The website also features a “Kids Zone,” with printable coloring pages, including one on the state bird, the Rhode Island Red, and more, as well as games and an area to test one’s knowledge of Rhode Island trivia. It also includes information about Statehouse tours and the state archives catalog and exhibits.
