In Tennessee Williams’ “The Rose Tattoo,” Serafina delle Rose is a restless widow who works as a dressmaker in a small fishing colony on the American Gulf Coast. After her husband’s death, it seems Serafina has withdrawn from the world and expects her daughter to do the same. Learn about the lover she chooses and the daughter she denies as 2nd Story Theatre presents Williams’ seldom-produced work. “The Rose Tattoo” is the winner of the 1951 Tony Award for Best Play and has been described as “an intoxicating fairy tale for grown-ups” by the New York Times.
