During a fundraising week that coincided with Ocean State Theatre Co.’s production of “Rent,” the theater and AIDS Care Ocean State raised more than $2,000 to assist those living with HIV/AIDS.
Audiences who attended performances of Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical during its final weekend on stage could offer financial support to Rhode Island’s largest AIDS organization, including through a bucket drive, similar to those conducted on The Great White Way by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.
“We were thrilled that the audiences attending our production generously donated $2,053 to benefit AIDS Care Ocean State,” said Amiee Turner, the theater’s producing artistic director. “[AIDS Care] is a valuable community asset and I am excited that our partnership not only brought this extraordinary production to a more diverse audience, but also assisted in raising community awareness about HIV and AIDS.”
AIDS Care Ocean State has been serving those living with HIV/AIDS in Rhode Island since 1990. •
