East Greenwich Spine & Sport physicians join University Orthopedics

PROVIDENCE – University Orthopedics announced that East Greenwich Spine & Sport physicians Matthew Smith, George Pasquarello and David Bica joined University Orthopedics, effective March 1, to provide nonsurgical services. Adding new specialists is part of University Orthopedics’ ongoing effort to improve both patient access and experience, according to a statement from University Orthopedics.

“We are thrilled to have [these providers] join our team … their skill sets in pain management and musculoskeletal care reinforce our commitment to quality care for our patients,” Dr. Edward Akelman, president of University Orthopedics, said in a statement.

Smith, director of system integration, treats patients with cervical, thoracic and lumbar epidural spinal steroid injections; facet injections; medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablation; and sacroiliac joint injections and radiofrequency ablation. In addition, he treats patients with peripheral joint and soft tissue injections, peripheral nerve blocks, medicolegal consults and electromyography and nerve conduction studies.
