PROVIDENCE – Three Rhode Island waterfront restaurants have been named among the top 100 scenic view restaurants in the country, based on more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted as part of the OpenTable 2014 Diners’ Choice Awards.

Boat House Waterfront Dining in Tiverton, the Castle Hill Inn in Newport and Seasons at the Ocean House in Westerly joined the Diners’ Choice Awards for most scenic view alongside restaurants in 27 other states.

Boat House and the Castle Hill Inn were also featured on last year’s scene restaurants list, while Seasons joined the OpenTable ranking this year for the first time. In 2012, Boat House was the only Rhode Island restaurant named among the top 100 scenic view restaurants.

Scenic views of the water were especially popular among diners who submitted reviews to OpenTable, with more oceanfront restaurants on the list than any other scenic-view restaurant, followed by lakeside and riverfront eateries.

Boat House Waterfront Dining provides seaside meals on the Sakonnet River, with an emphasis on fresh and local meats, produce and seafood. The Castle Hill Inn, located on a peninsula in western Newport, overlooks the East Passage from the ocean to Narragansett Bay, and Seasons at the Ocean House in Watch Hill looks out over the Atlantic Ocean.

“The spectacular vistas at these winning restaurants are as stunning as the delicious dishes the chefs are presenting,” said Caroline Potter, OpenTable’s chief dining officer. “From breathtaking waterfront seating to sweeping city views, these restaurants represent the very best in destination dining around our beautiful country.”

In the OpenTable listing, California claimed more top scenic-view restaurants than any other state, 38 in total, followed by Washington with seven honored restaurants, Hawaii with five and Florida with four. Restaurants that served American food and seafood were particularly popular, OpenTable said.

  1. Wow! They totally missed the boat with not including “Traffords” on the Warren River in this!! The most spectacular sunsets by far anywhere, it’s even been compared to Cape Anne and Newburyport for it’s working waterfront charm!
