NORTH KINGSTOWN – Toray Plastics (America) Inc. has created a new LumiLid anti-fog, clear-lidding film for use with polypropylene food trays.
Toray, which said it is the only U.S. maker of polypropylene, polyester, metallized and bio-based films, said the easy-to-peel LumiLid XL7AF film can be used with fresh and refrigerated food packaged in polypropylene trays, including mineral-filled PP trays.
The easy-to-peel film, which can be microwaved, can be used in packaging for vegetables, hummus and salsa, according to Toray.
Toray said that “ordinary” lidding films are thinner and lack the “caulkability” that XL7AF offers, noting that multilayer laminations are expensive. The company described the XL7AF seal as “strong enough to protect product freshness” and “consumer friendly, providing a quick, easy, clean peel resistant to shredding.”
“LumiLid XL7AF was developed for a solution to the problem of visible, undesirable condensation that can occur with fresh food packaged in clear-lidded trays,” Milan Moscaritolo, senior director of sales and marketing, Lumirror Division, said in a statement. “New XL7AF film’s anti-fog performance contributes to an attractive presentation, and the strong seal helps keep food fresh. Those qualities are essential for brand integrity.”
XL7AF, like all LumiLid films, is FDA compliant, made without solvents, and available in bio-based versions made from renewable feedstock.
