Toray introduces solvent-free lidding films

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Toray Plastics (America) Inc. is introducing a new product, LumiLid bio-based, dual-ovenable lidding films.
The films, manufactured with Toray’s proprietary sustainable resin blends, are made with more than 50 percent renewable bulk raw materials.
Designed for frozen, wet and dry food, and dairy use, the films also are compliant with the federal Food and Drug Administration to be used with oven temperatures as high as 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
According to the company, the films were created to lessen environmental impacts, as they use fewer petroleum resources during the manufacturing process, and to meet the needs of environmentally-conscious consumers.
The films also are solvent-free.
In addition, LumiLid films are Interstate Milk Shippers-certified, the company said.
“The next generation of innovative, bio-based film technology has arrived,” Milan Moscaritolo, senior director of sales and marketing, Toray Plastics (America), said in a statement. “The option to choose a bio-based lidding film that has so many advanced features and such high-performance capability presents a unique opportunity to end users and converters.”
LumiLid bio-based films have the same performance qualities that are characteristic of the LumiLid brand, Toray said. The new films, available in clear, white and metallized formats, have a broad seal range, outstanding seal integrity and an easy peel.
