PROVIDENCE – If you’re searching for Valentine’s Day plans, don’t leave out Providence. Named 12th-most romantic city in the nation by Travel + Leisure in a list of the top 20, the capital city was lauded for its gondola rides down the Providence River – which the survey said resemble those of Venice, Italy.
“Back on dry land, Westminster Street is packed with trendy little shops, while Waterplace Park’s cobblestoned streets and arched bridges are lined with restaurants,” read the survey.
While Charleston, S.C., with its “oak-lined streets,” was named the most romantic city in the country, regionally, Portland, Maine, came in at No. 13 and Boston took 17th place.
