NEWPORT – The Chanler at Cliff Walk has been recognized as the best hotel in Rhode Island by Travel + Leisure.

The magazine listed the best hotel in each state in 2015, and said The Chanler “provides the perfect base from which to explore the famed mansions of Newport.”

It noted that the property scored “an impressive” 95.50 on the T + L’s World’s Best Survey, receiving “rave reviews” from readers.

“The luxurious hotel has a rich history – it was built in 1873 as the summer home of New York congressman John Winthrop Chanler – and retains its classic ambiance, with 20 individually designed rooms,” Travel + Leisure stated on its website.

In addition, The Chanler snagged 18th place on the list of the 100 best hotels in the world, followed by another Rhode Island destination, the Ocean House in the Watch Hill section of Westerly, in the 19th spot.

Hotels on the lists received high scores from readers, who rated everything from the quality of the rooms to the location, service, dining options, nightlife and value.

Mohegan Sun’s hotel was ranked the best in Connecticut, and in Massachusetts, The Langham in Boston, housed in the former Federal Reserve bank, earned the top honor.
