PROVIDENCE – A mural that welcomes visitors to Providence on one side of the Trinity Repertory Company building is the latest installation of public art downtown.
The mural is the work of Providence Painted Signs, a small business whose hand-painted signs are becoming recognizable. The mural was commissioned with funds from the Providence Tourism Council, the Procaccianti Group and Trinity Repertory Board trustees Jack and Sara McConnell, according to a news release. Trinity Rep did not disclose the cost of the project.
The mural faces LaSalle Square, the site of the Rhode Island Civic Center, the Hasbro Inc. headquarters and the future site of a hotel, to be developed by the Procaccianti Group.
The artwork features a rendering of the historic façade of the Trinity Repertory building, as well as a school bus, which represents more than 1.3 million students who have been exposed to live theater at Trinity Rep, according to the release.
