Trust raises $215K at Fiesta Verde

MIDDLETOWN – The Aquidneck Land Trust raised $215,000 for conservation efforts and celebrated 25 years on July 25 at its 2015 Annual Fiesta Verde.
More than 350 people attended the festival to support the trust, a nonprofit dedicated to open spaces and natural character for the lasting benefit of the Aquidneck Island community.
The fundraiser, which was held at Sweet Berry Farm, was based on a “Meet Me at the Fair” theme, a “turn-of-the-century” fair with an evening of celebration that also recognized the nonprofit’s 25-year anniversary.
Visitors enjoyed food from McGrath Clambake & Catering, featuring farm-fresh ingredients and fair food with a gourmet twist. They also enjoyed music, dancing, a raffle, and a silent auction, which included artwork, jewelry, gifts and get-away packages donated by local businesses and organizations.
The trust’s time-sensitive mission is to conserve Aquidneck Island’s open spaces and natural character for the lasting benefit of the community.
To date, the organization has conserved 2,519 acres on 73 properties across Aquidneck Island since its founding in 1990. The nonprofit is the first land trust in Rhode Island to have received national accreditation.
