TWIN RIVER IS exploring the possibility of constructing a small hotel on its property.

LINCOLN – Constructing a small hotel at Twin River Casino is an avenue the parent company, Twin River Worldwide Holdings, would like to explore, board Chairman John E. Taylor Jr. told the Town Council Tuesday night.
The casino had pledged to first approach the town of Lincoln about the prospect of a hotel on the property before pursuing the issue with legislators, since state law prohibits construction of a hotel there, Taylor said. The addition could help keep Twin River competitive and preserve jobs and revenue in a shifting gaming landscape, he told the council.
“While we have always defined ourselves as a convenience casino, one that caters to customers who live within a 60-mile radius, we are motivated by two important factors,” Taylor said. “The first is that more and more of our customers tell us they would like the option to play, dine and then stay overnight at Twin River.
“The second,” he added, “is that there is no denying that the New England gaming landscape has changed dramatically in the last two years. In a few short months we will begin to compete against a Massachusetts racino just 12 miles from our front door. Within another 18 months, we will be competing against Wynn Resorts, one of the most successful destination casino operators, and a destination casino just outside of Boston.”
The hotel could feature anywhere from 150 to 250 rooms in up to four stories. Attached to the casino, it would include a spa, small meeting rooms and room service provided by the casino’s food and beverage staff, he said. A public hearing and review process in Lincoln would occur as an appeal for legislative relief is pursued, he added.
If lawmakers and the governor granted that relief, a formal planning and zoning process could ensue, he said.
