Two Rhode Island firms have been named to Qualified Remodeler magazine’s Top 500 Remodelers of 2014 list, ranked by 2013 remodeling-gross sales.

Davitt Design Build in South Kingstown was ranked 205 on the list with $4.9 million in remodeling gross sales. Rhode Island Kitchen & Bath in Warwick was ranked 334 with $2.9 million in remodeling gross sales. The list was published in the August 2014 issue.

“The Top 500 firms tend to share several common attributes, including excellent business acumen, a commitment to customer service, insightful sales techniques and strong customer loyalty,” Qualified Remodeler Managing Editor Laurie Banyay said in a release from Rhode Island Kitchen & Bath announcing the results.

Many of the businesses listed are also longstanding. According to Qualified Remodeler, the firms on this year’s list have been serving their respective regions for an average of 27 years. This holds true for the two Rhode Island firms on the list – Rhode Island Kitchen & Bath has been in business for 25 years and Davitt Design Build has existed for 32 years.

The total gross revenue reported by the 500 firms that made the list totaled at $8.25 billion, which was approximately 18 percent higher than last year’s list, according to the magazine. The magazine mentions that this increase indicates that the economy’s vital signs are improving, however it was also noted that marketing efforts (and spending) of this year’s ranked companies had increased from 6.9 percent in 2011 to 7.4 percent in 2013.

Rhode Island Kitchen & Bath saw a decrease in both jobs it was contracted for and its revenue. The firm was contracted for 107 jobs in 2013, down from 119 in 2012 – a 10 percent decrease. Rhode Island Kitchen & Bath’s remodeling gross sales also decreased by six percent. Davitt Design Build experienced a 92 percent growth of remodeling jobs, with 13 jobs in 2012 and 25 in 2013, Davitt Design Build’s revenue remained relatively stable, with a 2.7 percent increase from 2012.

Both of the Rhode Island firms are full-service Design Build firms. Rhode Island Kitchen and Bath specializes in kitchens and bathrooms and it has a 3,000-square-foot showroom. Davitt Design Build specializes in difficult lots and coastal building. Both of firms hold several certifications from the National Association of Home Builders.
