Attorney – Duffy & Sweeney Ltd.
Age: 35

Why did you select your profession?
I like the pressure of a high-stakes environment. As a congressional intern for a U.S. senator (and attending the Clinton impeachment trial), I saw firsthand how influential skilled lawyers can be.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
Never get in the way of a deal.

What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
Move out West, drink beer and ski every day. When the ramen noodles are gone, return home, find a career that fits your passion and get serious about it.

What is your favorite Rhode Island escape or hobby?
Cross-training across Rhode Island for my first Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid, N.Y., this summer. It’s beautiful here, and … it reminds me of my home state of Maine.

How do you keep a work-life balance?
“Work hard, play hard” was my mantra for the first 10 years of my career. With the recent birth of my son, Nelson, the “play hard” has taken on a new meaning. •
