UMass Dartmouth, NUWC recruiting high school students for national robotics competition

DARTMOUTH – The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center are recruiting high school students to form a new robotics team to compete in the First Robotics Competition in January.
All high school students can join the team, according to information from UMass Dartmouth. Team members will be expected to attend weekly evening meetings at UMass Dartmouth during the fall semester where they will practice building and programming robots.
Students interested in joining the team can contact Mechanical Engineering Professor Alex Fowler (afowler@umassd.edu), NUWC Educational Outreach Coordinator Candida Desjardins (candida.desjardins@navy.mil) or Dartmouth High School Physics Teacher Sam Brodsky (samuelbrodsky@dartmouthschools.org) on or before Sept. 30.
In March, the UMass Dartmouth campus hosted one of the 10 qualifying district events within the New England FIRST Robotics Competition region. More than 25 high school teams were featured.
The mission of FIRST, a not-for-profit organization, is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills inspiring innovation, according to the university.
