PROVIDENCE – United Natural Foods Inc. has extended its primary wholesale grocery distribution relationship with Whole Foods Market Inc. by five more years.
UNFI, which carries and distributes more than 85,000 products to more than 40,000 customer sites throughout the United States and Canada, has extended its primary distribution agreement to Sept. 25, 2025, with Whole Foods.
The previous agreement was set to expire in September 2020.

Michael Zechmeister, chief financial officer and treasurer at UNFI, said the company does not talk publicly about the specifics of customer agreements, but said it has been the primary distributor for Whole Foods for more than 17 years. Whole Foods represented approximately 35 percent of net sales in fiscal 2015, which were more than $8 billion, he said.
