PROVIDENCE – The University of Rhode Island’s Alan Shawn Feinstein College of Education and Professional Studies will be launched at a March 22 event on both the South Kingstown and Providence campuses, according to an announcement made by the school on Monday.

Once known as the College of Continuing Education, the school has been renamed as the result of a gift from Alan Shawn Feinstein, a noted local philanthropist, in the 1990s.
The Providence campus event will take place from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the PAFF auditorium on 80 Washington St. and focus on how URI prepares adult students for careers in industry and promotes opportunities for workforce development.

South Kingstown campus events will take place in the afternoon, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Edwards Auditorium. Speakers will address how educators are prepared for the challenges of providing equal education to all students in a diverse community.

Home to 523 undergraduate students and 176 graduate students, the college offers 30 majors across its two campuses.
