URI launching Academic Health Collaborative

THE UNIVERSITY of Rhode Island recently announced the university's Dr. Pauline B. Wood Health Services earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The University of Rhode Island is launching an Academic Health Collaborative as it reorganizes health programs to maximize cross-disciplinary programs and spur external partnerships.
The official announcement is scheduled for March 28 at 10:30 a.m. in a tent outside the university’s College of Pharmacy building at 7 Greenhouse Road on the Kingston campus.
In the media advisory, the university says it will link a new College of Health Sciences to colleges of nursing and pharmacy. An Institute of Integrated Health and Innovation also will be established to foster multidisciplinary collaboration among faculty, students and professionals across health disciplines, the university said.
The collaborative is intended to spur cooperation and innovation in research, education, health promotion and recognition and elimination of health disparities.
URI’s research already extends to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions, plant-based pharmaceuticals, premature infant birthing and development, ocean-based organisms for medicinal uses and insect-born diseases.
