SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Robert M. Beagle, vice president for advancement at the University of Rhode Island, will retire June 30 after nearly 21 years of service, URI President David M. Dooley announced Thursday.

“It is with great regret that I make this announcement,” Dooley said in a prepared statement. Beagle “has been a valued member of my leadership team since I joined the university three years ago.”

Beagle, 68, is the longest-serving vice president at URI and is credited with leading a team of professionals who have redefined URI’s advancement functions and created a new level of pride among alumni, students, faculty, staff and all Rhode Islanders, the university said.

A university and community celebration of his accomplishments is scheduled June 22 at the Thomas M. Ryan Center on the Kingston Campus.

Beagle, however, may continue to work for URI but in a different capacity.

“While I will miss URI and the advancement field very much, the retirement will enable me to spend more time with family and to pursue such interests as teaching at the Harrington School of Communication and Media, continuing to write professional articles and traveling,” Beagle said.
