URI nursing students visit WellOne facility

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Seniors from the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing recently participated in a presentation at the WellOne Primary Medical and Dental Care facility here as part of their community health clinical rotation.

The presentation, by Deirdre Denning Norton, vice president and site director for WellOne’s North Kingstown and Foster locations, explored the medical, dental and behavioral health services offered by WellOne; the impact of the Affordable Care Act on community health centers; and the changing role played by nurse practitioners in the community health care system.

“As a result of the Affordable Care Act, WellOne has seen a significant rise in the number of patients seeking primary medical care,” said Denning Norton. “Last year we served over 14,000 patients, the highest number of patient encounters in our 105-year history.”
