URI pharmacy school ranked in top 10

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The University of Rhode Island’s pharmacy program ranked 10th among 127 pharmacy schools for its residency-program placement rate for the year 2014.

Eighty-six percent of URI’s pharmacy grads found an appropriate post-graduate residency, according to Kristina Ward, associate professor of clinical pharmacy, who oversees URI’s residency and fellowship preparation program.

The national average rate for matching pharmacy grads with residency programs is 63 percent.

“Several years back, we recognized that pharmacy residency programs were becoming much more competitive,” Ward said, “so we decided to put together a formal program to help students through the process of identifying, applying and getting accepted to a post-graduate residency.”

URI’s residency and fellowship preparation program includes mock interviews, reviews of student letters and resumes, and coaching on how to create a successful application.
