URI to host CEO of Spanish company to discuss financial crisis

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The College of Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island this month will host the chief executive of a major finance and development company in Spain to discuss the country’s financial crisis.
Salvador Marín Hernandez, president and CEO of Spain’s Compañía Española de Financiación del Desarrollo, will present a lecture titled “Spain’s Financial Crisis and Austerity Policy Response: Economic, Political and Social Impact” at the school at 6 p.m. on March 28.
The event, at 120 Flagg Road, is free and open to the public and will explore how the Spanish government took actions to reverse the nation’s financial crisis and stabilize the economy. Marín will also talk about some of the post-crisis challenges, including the high unemployment rate and rise of new political parties, which ring true of some similar qualities here in the United States. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion.
“The lecture and panel discussion will not only provide an opportunity for us to learn about Spain’s financial crisis and recovery, but it will also provide important lessons for the United States’ own current economic and political situation,” said Alejandro Hazera, professor of accounting.
