United Way awarding Olneyville grants

PROVIDENCE – The United Way of Rhode Island is accepting grant applications for its Olneyville Community Fund through Jan. 24.
For 2014, applicants may apply for grants from a funding pool of $100,000, submitting by 4 p.m. on Jan. 24. Notifications of decisions made by the Olneyville Community Fund Advisory Committee and members of UWRI’s Board of Directors will go out by mid-April.
When it moved its headquarters to Olneyville in 2008, UWRI committed to playing a key role in the community’s redevelopment and established the Olneyville Community Fund to help local residents, business owners, and community-based organizations implement programs that support the development of a thriving neighborhood.
Since 2002, UWRI has invested more than $3 million in Olneyville.
Agencies applying for funding should offer programs that focus on access to affordable housing, strengthening commerce and local business, improving the environment, and expanding community partnerships that address community needs.
To be eligible for grant consideration, individual organizations and consortiums must have a letter of determination of 501c(3) status from the IRS or have a fiscal agent with 501c(3) status; provide services within Olneyville; and meet outlined financial documentation requirements based on annual budget size.
An organizational description, budget, and comprehensive program outline – including goals and objectives, how success will be measured, target population, agency capacity, and previous funding received from UWRI – must also be included.
