WARWICK – A new online incentive program to help pregnant women with prenatal and baby care, reinforcing healthy behaviors, has been rolled out by UnitedHealthcare.

The new program, called “Baby Blocks,” is being offered at no charge to Medicaid members in Rhode Island whose benefits are managed by United Healthcare, under programs such as RIte Care.

Women who enroll in Baby Blocks can earn rewards for completing prenatal, postpartum and well-baby appointments, according to the health insurer. Once signed up, a member can access an interactive board that shows their prenatal visits and opportunities to earn rewards for following a prenatal visit schedule.

Baby Blocks enables patients to track appointments and receive email appointment reminders as well as rewards for keeping the appointments.

“With Baby Blocks, we want to do everything we can to ensure babies get the best possible start in life,” said Patrice Cooper, executive director of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Rhode Island. “It is a convenient, easy-to-use resource that helps pregnant women and new mothers live healthier, more comfortable lives.”

In Rhode Island, as of March 2012, UnitedHealthcare’s share of the managed Medicaid population is about one-third, serving 38,273 members enrolled in RIte Care. Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island serves about two-thirds of the managed Medicaid population in the state, with 78,273 members enrolled in RIte Care.

Nationwide, through its Medicaid business, UnitedHealthcare said that its offers health care coverage to more than two million children in 25 markets.
