Interior design isn’t merely a seating arrangement or a room’s color palette. Good design is how you feel while experiencing it. Providence interior designer Kelly Taylor of Kelly Taylor Interior Design wants her clients to be uplifted and energized by the spaces she creates.

“I am passionate about getting to know our clients and figuring out who they are … and how we can ensure their personal and professional lives are more healthy and satisfying,” said Taylor. “No matter the type of client, each has individual requirements and unique problems that need to be solved.”

Taylor’s 17-year career includes studies in interior design at the Parsons School of Design in New York and a master’s of design studies in sustainable design from Boston Architectural College. Her eye for design, proper structural elements, and a priority on sustainability means each of the 300,000 square feet of space she designed over the years was completed with her clients’ optimal use and the environment in mind.

“Kelly is architecturally trained, which means she does not simply add decoration – she and her team create and execute a design from start to finish,” said Andy Cutler, founder of Smaller Cities Unite!, who nominated Taylor.

Taylor’s design philosophy is simple. “Our interior spaces should reflect our best selves,” she said. “Our job is to create a space that answers to the physical, spiritual and mental needs of our clients.”

Known for a collaborative approach, Taylor believes that advising, coaching and guiding younger and less-experienced designers creates a stronger design community. “It takes a lifetime to learn every nuance of this very complex and ever-changing field,” she says.

Taylor co-founded DESIGNxRI to foster collaboration across design disciplines while promoting local talent and stimulating economic growth.

“A greater number of experienced designers can only elevate the field of design,” she said. “There is no harm in more people understanding the value design can bring to their daily lives.” •
