Vinny Paz movie seeking more extras for fight scene filming

(Updated 11:47 a.m.) PROVIDENCE – “Bleed for This,” the movie about Rhode Island boxing champion Vinny Paz, needs 6,000 extras for fight scenes at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Dec. 16 and 17.
Extras will be needed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 2 to 10 p.m. on both days.
Food and soft drinks will be served. Flat screen televisions, boxing gloves and a WBA championship boxing belt signed by entire cast, as well as restaurant gift certificates, will be raffled off.
In addition to the call for extras, the production company announced that filming for the movie was moving to Kent Hospital in Warwick on Thursday and Friday.
Kent Hospital, a Care New England Hospital, will serve as a backdrop for a number of scenes, as the boxer stayed there in the early 1990s.
Jim Beardsworth, Kent’s director of public relations and marketing, said, “We are excited to be participating in this Rhode Island production and to help provide filming locations needed to portray some of the actual care provided to Mr. Pazienza at the time of his accident. Our work with the community is important on so many levels and this is certainly a unique opportunity to be a part of.”
Beardsworth said the hospital also was used during filming for the television show “Brotherhood.”
He said the hospital was careful to plan filming for the movie so that patients will not be disrupted. Beardsworth said much of the filming will take place later in the day or overnight. Some waiting rooms will be used after hours, and a floor that is currently empty of patients also will be used, he said.

Vinny Paz, born Vinny Pazienza, was injured and left with a broken neck in a near-fatal car accident at the peak of his career. After months of recovery and against doctors’ orders, Paz returned to the gym under Mike Tyson’s former trainer Kevin Rooney, and stepped into the ring again just over a year later.
