WalletHub: Jobs are scarce in Providence

PROVIDENCE – One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is “to get a better job,” according to Wallet-Hub, but apparently Providence isn’t the best place to look for one.

The personal finance website said that Providence is the fifth-worst city in the nation to find a job.

WalletHub studied the 150 most-populated cities in the country. To come up with its findings, WalletHub looked at job market (including unemployment rate, industry variety, full-time employment, percentage of employed residents living under the poverty line and disability friendliness) and socioeconomic environment (including median annual income, housing affordability, benefits and annual transportation costs).

California cities took three of the bottom four spots – Stockton was last, Fresno was second to last and Modesto was fourth. Detroit was third worst on the list.
