WalletHub: Providence one of least-livable state capitals

PROVIDENCE – Providence is one of the worst state capitals to live in in the country, according to WalletHub’s latest survey.
“Regardless of how many we can actually remember beyond grade school, some state capitals are among the most livable places in the nation. WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 state capitals to identify which among them combines the best of everything an ideal city has to offer: affordability, a strong economy, high education standards and overall excellent quality of life,” WalletHub said.
The financial services website placed Austin, Texas, in the No. 1 spot and Hartford, Conn., at the bottom.
Providence was 46th on the list, or fifth worst, according to WalletHub. It ranked low in the subcategory of affordability at 47th, but did better in education and health, and quality of life, coming in 24th and 21st, respectively.
It also ranked second-to-last for lowest median household income, cost of living adjusted, ahead only of Hartford, and fifth-worst for highest percentage of residents living below the poverty level.
Boston ranked 41st overall on the list.
