WalletHub: R.I. 26th on list of best, worst states for women

PROVIDENCE – The Ocean State falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to the best and worst states for women, according to WalletHub, a personal finance website.
Rhode Island ranked 26th on the list, the lowest out of all the New England states, which dominated the top spots. It fared worse in the subcategory of women’s economic and social well-being at No. 31, but rose to No. 15 in the subcategory of women’s health care and safety.
Minnesota was listed as the best state for women, followed by Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. Connecticut just missed the top 10, coming in at No. 11.
WalletHub said it studied the 50 states and Washington, D.C., in light of March being Women’s History Month. The website looked at everything from median earnings for female workers and percentage of women living in poverty to women’s preventive health care and the female uninsured rate to come up with its list.
In the bottom spot was Louisiana.
