PROVIDENCE – Walmart has donated $369,395 to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital, the company announced Tuesday.
“Walmart is one of Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s most devoted corporate partners,” Dr. Timothy J. Babineau, president and CEO of Lifespan and president of Rhode Island Hospital, said in a statement. “Through their generosity, Walmart associates, along with their community of caring customers help us improve the health and well being of thousands of children and families each and every day.”
The donation includes money donated by Walmart customers during the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Weeks register campaign and funds raised through store events including bake sales and book sales.
It also includes a $50,000 donation made as a result of the Rhode Island associates voting to support Hasbro Children’s Hospital through the “Associate Choice” campaign, which provides a large cash donation to the nonprofit selected by Walmart associates in each state.
“Walmart is pleased to support the important work of Hasbro Children’s Hospital to improve the health of kids in Rhode Island,” said Chris Buchanan, director of public affairs and government relations at Walmart, in a statement. “We are delighted to recognize the work they do in impacting the lives of thousands of people in Rhode Island.”
The donation was announced during a tour and presentation at the hospital for Walmart associates that highlighted hospital projects that have been funded by Walmart.
The Walmart Foundation supports education, workforce development, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness initiatives.
In 2010, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation made a pledge of $2 billion through 2015 to fight hunger in the United States.
