PROVIDENCE – The Walmart Rhode Island State Giving Council has granted a total of $328,607 to eight nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island for the council’s second round of funding this year, Walmart announced Tuesday.
“Walmart is pleased to support these important local nonprofit organizations,” Chris Buchanan, director of public affairs and government relations at Walmart, said in a statement. “At this time of year, when many people need some good news during the holidays, we are delighted to recognize the work they do in impacting the lives of thousands of people in Rhode Island.”
The nonprofits receiving Walmart Foundation grants are: East Bay Community Action Program ($30,000), Family Resources Community Action ($60,069), House of Hope Community Development Corporation ($30,000), Jonnycake Center of Westerly ($39,393), Junior Achievement of Rhode Island ($30,145), Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island Inc. ($75,000), Special Olympics Rhode Island Inc. ($30,000) and Westerly Area Rest Meals Inc. ($34,000).
This month, Walmart also announced a donation of $369,000 to Hasbro Children’s Hospital from a combination of in-store fundraising and corporate contributions.
The Walmart Foundation supports initiatives that are helping people live better lives worldwide through programs targeting hunger relief, education, workforce development, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness.
