PROVIDENCE – Michael DeVos has been appointed as ONE Neighborhood Builders’ new executive director.

DeVos has 35 years of experience in real estate, community development and affordable housing. His work history includes directing Resources for Community Development, a California-based nonprofit devoted to creating and preserving affordable housing; development director for the Maine State Housing Authority; executive director of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and most recently, a self-employed real estate developer and investor in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Warwick resident is a Harvard College graduate and received his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

“We are very excited to have Michael DeVos as our new executive director,” Board President Robert F. McMahon, and a chair member of the Search Committee, said in a statement. “Michael has exactly the experience and expertise that we need at this time. He is the right person for the job.”

DeVos succeeds Frank Shea who left the corporation after 17 years to lead Urban Edge in Boston. Interim Director Wendy Nicholas led ONE Neighborhood Builders until DeVos assumed his new role on Aug. 1.

DeVos will be helping ONE Neighborhood Builders with its acquisition of housing and commercial property assets of the former Elmwood-based Community Works Rhode Island. The acquisition is expected to be completed by year-end.
He will also be assisting the development corporation with completing affordable housing units on Parkis Avenue and Burnside Street and the construction of its new $10.4 million Amherst Gardens project of 36 rental apartments in Olneyville.

ONE Neighborhood Builders, formerly Olneyville Housing Corp., is a 28-year-old community development corporation in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood, promoting equity, community health and neighborhood growth through real estate development and community asset building.
