Washington Trust CEO honored by Narragansett Council

WESTERLY – Washington Trust Chairman, President And CEO Joseph J. MarcAurele was recently honored with the Sen. John H. Chafee Distinguished Citizens Award by the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America at the scout’s annual Distinguished Citizens award luncheon on June 27 at the Providence Westin. The Council also recognized Washington Trust’s Board member Robert A. DiMuccio, president, chairman and CEO of the AMICA Mutual Insurance Co.

MarcAurele was honored as a key Rhode Island business leader who has a long history and commitment to community service. A lifelong Rhode Island resident, MarcAurele has been recognized numerous times for his dedication to the local community, including the Corporate Citizen Award from Providence Business News, the New England Public Service Award from the Phoenix House, and the Jeanne Jugan Award from Little Sisters of the Poor. MarcAurele, who serves as the president of the board of directors of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, also received the Hometown Hero Award from the Pawtucket Red Sox and Cox Communications for his leadership in the Striking Out Hunger initiative to benefit the food bank.

He is also a member of President’s Council of Providence College, the Rhode Island Commodores Executive Committee, and on the board of trustees of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the boards of Lifespan Corp., Delta Dental of Rhode Island, the Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program, and the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council. He is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Community Depository Institution Advisory Council.

“Each year the council recognizes distinguished community leaders and business executives whose lives and accomplishments embody scouting principles,” said John Mosby, scout executive/CEO for the Narragansett Boy Scouts Honor Council during the ceremony. “This year’s recipients are role models for local youth and serve as shining examples within our community.”
