Washington Trust eases hunger pangs at McAuley

The Washington Trust Co. recently awarded McAuley House a $5,000 grant in support of its “Lunch on Us Program.” The bank also provided a dozen employees to help serve hot meals over two days in September.
McAuley House serves up to 1,500 meals each week and it includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. According to federal statistics, one in eight Rhode Island households struggle to put food on the table.
“We continue to serve long lines of our neighbors seeking help as they struggle to put food on the table, which underscores the importance of generosity from partners like Washington Trust,” said Don Wolfe, executive director of McAuley Ministries. “Not only has Washington Trust been a longtime supporter of our work, their employees are always willing to lend a helping hand.”
McAuley House launched the “Lunch on Us” program in 2007 as a way to reach out to the community. Through the partnership, organizations can underwrite a month’s worth of meals for $10,000, which will provide more than 5,000 meals, or they can donate $5,000 for two weeks’ worth of meals.
