The Washington Trust Co. and Chorus of Westerly are celebrating 50 years of partnership this year, a relationship that has seen the institution provide financial support that has helped renovate a performance hall, fund the summer pops event and support performances abroad.
Washington Trust sends a team of volunteers to set up the stage and the “shell” for the Summer Pops acoustic performance in Westerly’s Wilcox Park each year. The organization has supported the summer celebration since its inception 34 years ago.
To celebrate this longstanding partnership, Washington Trust President and Chief Operating Officer Edward “Ned” Handy presented an $11,000 donation to the Chorus.
“Their support of the Pops and of so many Chorus projects – past, present and in the future – has really shaped the arts environment of our town, our state and our entire region and, indeed, changed lives,” said Ryan Saunders, executive director of the Chorus of Westerly. “Washington Trust is a true champion of the arts, the town and the Chorus of Westerly.” •
