PAWTUCKET – David M. Wax, who has been serving as acting executive director of the Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre since June, took on the position permanently effective Nov. 30.
Wax, former board president, has been acting as executive director since former director Yvonne Seggerman started a sabbatical in June. In October, Seggerman submitted her resignation to the Gamm Theatre board, informing them that she would not return as scheduled in January.
“When David indicated that he was willing to continue in a full-time capacity, he gave The Gamm an incredible opportunity to move forward with a seasoned executive familiar with the inner workings of the institution and attuned to the specific opportunities and challenges that lie ahead,” Board President Sam Babbitt said in prepared remarks.
“With his previous tenure as a Gamm board president coupled with his vast experience helming successful arts institutions, David’s selection is one of the easiest decisions we have ever made,” added Babbitt.
Wax said that while he had no intention of taking on a full-time administrative position again, when the board approached him he “could not resist.”
“I have been extremely enthusiastic about the work of The Gamm since coming to Rhode Island, and that enthusiasm has grown as The Gamm has grown artistically,” said Wax in a statement. “I am excited at the prospect of working with [Artistic Director Tony Estrella], with the highly capable staff that I have gotten to know over the past several months, and with the committed members of the board.”
Wax added that he looked forward to “to the bright future of this extraordinary theatrical company.”
