Webster Bank announces leadership changes

PROVIDENCE – Webster Bank on Tuesday announced a change in leadership for its Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts region, which includes 29 banking centers and a regional office in Providence.
Doug Scala, of the Rumford section of East Providence, succeeds Bob Twomey to become the new senior vice president, regional president of the bank’s Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts region.
Bristol resident Twomey, who held the position since 2007, has been appointed senior vice president, special projects for Webster’s commercial banking division.
Scala joined Webster a year ago this month as the senior vice president, unit manager for middle market banking. Prior to joining the bank he worked as an executive at The Hudson Companies in Providence for seven years serving as chief operating officer from 2012 to 2014, according to a press release. He will now head the region’s 29 banking centers and regional office at 100 Westminster St.
Scala will report directly to Christopher Motl, executive vice president, director of middle market banking, and operate out of the Providence and Fall River, Mass., offices. The bank says he’s responsible for “all middle market lending, deposit gathering and revenue generating activities” in the region, according to a press release.
Twomey is now responsible for “special projects” across Webster’s commercial banking footprint, according to the release.
“Twomey will also plan an integral role in representing the commercial bank in establishment of a credit training academy for Webster bankers, a first for the company, as well as a product and sales training,” according to the release.
