WESTERLY – The historic Weekapaug Inn re-opened on Sunday after a $20 million renovation, Ocean House Management LLC announced Tuesday.

The seaside inn, sister-property to the Ocean House, has been closed since 2007 to undergo renovations with the support of the R.I. Historic Preservation & Heritage Commission.

“While the Ocean House and the Weekapaug Inn have always catered to different guests and will continue to do so, we plan to create appropriate synergies and alignment between the two properties to create truly unique and special experiences for guests at each property,” Daniel A. Hostettler, the president and group managing director of Ocean House Management LLC, said in a statement.

The inn was originally built in 1899 and has 27 guest rooms and four two-bedroom signatures suites. The renovated rooms were designed by Rhode Island-based Nancy Taylor Designs.

The newly renovated inn “invites travelers to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings,” according to a release, which added that in-room flat-panel televisions are only available upon request.

Guests can enjoy a three-lane 75 foot lap pool and fitness center, traditional lawn activities including bocce, shuffleboard and horseshoes, and educational outings included kayaking, bird watching and fly-fishing seminars.

The inn will also hold “Master Series” seminars on topics including landscape painting and digital wildlife photography.

“The Weekapaug Inn historically served as a centerpiece of its community, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to restore this treasure to its former glory,” Langdon Wheeler, managing member of Weekapaug Inn and Cottages LLC, said in a statement.

“By introducing a new chapter to the Inn’s history, both locals and travelers will be able to experience its spectacular location, enriching experiences and traditions for years to come,” added Wheeler.
