Wellness efforts foster staff engagement

In existence for more than eight years, West View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center’s wellness program was founded on the simple but apt principle that healthy employees are ultimately happy and productive employees.Wellness benchmarks serve as the foundation of the initiative; West View staff can reduce their share of health costs by getting annual physicals, completing health-risk assessments, and engaging in healthy activities such as quitting or refraining from smoking.

Over the years, the skilled nursing and rehabilitation care organization in Warwick has expanded the initiative’s reach to meet its staff’s personal, physical, emotional and financial needs, based on various modes of feedback.

Since the inception of the wellness program, West View has seen a marked drop in the number of smokers on staff – credited to on-site smoking-cessation programs – and participation in programs has “steadily increased and outcomes have been positive.”

“We continue to attempt to move the needle of employee wellness by offering opportunities for our staff to participate in activities and education,” West View said in a statement. n
