WEST WARWICK – A court spokesman has confirmed that the West Valley Inn has been placed into receivership.
The longtime banquet facility, which closed last month after being in operation since 1978, was placed into receivership on Tuesday by Superior Court Associate Justice Brian P. Stern after no buyers came forward.
Frank DiBiase Jr., owner of the Spring House on Block Island and Providence Oyster Bar, recently backed out of buying the 12-acre property, placing it back on the market. It was listed for $1.5 million.
Richard Land has been appointed temporary receiver, according to court spokesman Craig N. Berke.
Nancy Thomas, of Tapestry Communications, who was acting as spokeswoman for the facility, released a statement saying she is no longer in that role.
“As the West Valley Inn is put into receivership today, Tapestry Communications is no longer the spokesperson for the facility or, at this time, the Correia family. I’ve known and worked with the Correias, specifically Debbie Correia, for quite a number of years, and have witnessed their struggle to save their family’s business, which holds so many memories for them – and for so many, many Rhode Islanders. West Valley Inn was truly a RI icon. It was also the employer for over 70 Rhode Islanders who now must go about finding other work. Coincidentally, there is a Job Fair happening today at NetworkRI to help them do just that,” Thomas said.
