Westerly Community Credit Union awards scholarships

WESTERLY – Four scholarships, $1,000 each, were awarded by Westerly Community Credit Union to graduating seniors at Westerly, Chariho and Stonington High Schools in June.

Westerly student Joseph Brodeur received the Westerly Community Credit Union Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship, given in honor of the former president, CEO and board chairman. A graduate of Westerly High School, Brodeur plans to study philosophy and theology at Providence College in the fall.

Mystic’s John Moody was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship, awarded in honor of former vice president Bewlay and his 35 years of service to the organization. A graduate of Stonington High School, Moody plans to study finance at the University of North Carolina in the fall.

A graduate of Chariho High School, Kalee Bettez received the Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship, awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending a vocation credentialed program. She plans to study nursing at New England Tech in the fall.

Westerly’s Michael Henson was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union College Scholarship, newly created last year. He is a graduate of Westerly High School and plans to study accounting and finance at the University of Rhode Island in the fall.

In addition, Isaac Kaufman of Westerly received the Cooperative Credit Union Scholarship, sponsored by the Westerly Community Credit Union, one of 11 Rhode Island credit unions participating in the award. A graduate of Westerly High School he will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall to study computer engineering and IT systems management.
