Women & Infants, R.I. Hospital recognized for breast health centers

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital have received a national Women’s Choice Award for their breast health centers.

The two institutions were two of 315 breast health programs to be recognized nationwide with an award.

Women & Infants, a Care New England hospital, also was recognized with a Women’s Choice Award as a best hospital for obstetrics earlier this year.

“This is the second Women’s Choice designation Women & Infants has earned in 2015 – the first being as an America’s Best Hospital for Obstetrics. Both announcements highlight the outstanding care we provide women and their families every single day,” Mark R. Marcantano, president and chief operating officer at Women & Infants Hospital, said in a statement. “Our Breast Health Center is a compassionate, supportive environment in which women receive care from some of the nation’s top experts, with the latest in treatment and diagnostic equipment. We are very proud that this excellence is being recognized.”

“Every two minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer, and she needs to know which breast centers she can trust to navigate this uncertain path,” said Delia Passi, CEO and founder of the Women’s Choice Award.

Centers earn the designation by having met the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards from the American College of Surgeons.

The NAPBC is a consortium of national professional organizations focused on breast health and dedicated to the improvement of quality care and outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast through evidence-based standards and patient and professional education.

As one of America’s Best Breast Centers, Women & Infants also carries the seal of the American College of Radiologists as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, and scored above average on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services patient satisfaction measures.
