Women & Infants staff members earn recognition

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, a Care New England hospital, recently awarded its Richard P. Welch Awards for Continued Excellence in Patient and Family Centered Care in both clinical and nonclinical categories. Clinical award winners included a team of pathologists, including Larry Young, Svetlana Shapiro and Drs. Monique Depaepe and Funsun Gundogan. The 2016 nonclinical winner was Noelle Siravo of the neonatal intensive care unit.

The pathology team, 2016 clinical winner of the Welch Award, works collaboratively surrounding infant and stillborn death. Together, they work to find answers for families, dress babies for families to have meaningful time after death and care for families and their children with dignity, attentiveness and loving care.

Nonclinical winner of the 2016 Welch Award, Noelle Siravo, is a NICU unit secretary. The first person parents see when they enter the unit, Noelle has a desire to go above and beyond for every family. Her colleagues recall that she once used her own money to buy dinner for a family of a baby who had just died.

Established in 2006 by the family and friends of the late Richard “Dick” Welch, the award was inspired by his commitment to excellence in patient- and family-centered care during his 35-year tenure at the hospital, as a trustee, board chair and CEO. Awards are presented annually for a clinical and nonclinical employee.
