Women and Infants, South County hospitals among best in country for obstetrics

(Updated 4 p.m. Wednesday) PROVIDENCE – Women and Infants Hospital and South County Hospital each have received a 2015 Women’s Choice Award for being among the best hospitals in the country for obstetrics.
More than 300 hospitals around the country made the list based on female patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.
Women & Infants, a Care New England hospital, is one of the nation’s leading specialty hospitals for women and newborns, according to the description at www.womenschoiceaward.com. Women & Infants is the 11th largest stand-alone obstetrical service in the country with approximately 8,400 deliveries per year.
“We are so proud of this honor and to be recognized among some of the best hospitals in our country. This recognition is an acknowledgement of the extraordinary level of high quality, compassionate care that we provide each and every day to the women and newborns of this region,” Mark R. Marcantano, president and chief operating officer at Women & Infants Hospital, said in a statement.
Delia Passi, CEO and founder of the Women’s Choice Award, said new moms have many choices when it comes to obstetrics.
“Now they can make informed decisions based on the recommendations of other moms who have experienced that hospital first hand. Most importantly, when a woman sees the Women’s Choice Award at her local hospital, she’ll know that the hospital values her experience as a critical component of care for her and her loved ones,” Passi said in prepared remarks.
South County Hospital is based in the Wakefield section of South Kingstown, and delivered just under 700 babies in 2014, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

“South County Hospital is thrilled to be recognized for the Women’s Choice Award and to be named one of the top hospitals in [Rhode Island] for obstetrical care. South County Hospital is proud of its reputation of providing a family-centered approach to care that is personalized for each and every family that walks through our doors,” Maureen Pearlman, director, women services, South County Hospital, said in a statement.

Hospitals that qualified for this designation provided the highest level of obstetric services based on exceptional scores for patient recommendation as reported in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys, as well as an analysis that weighs criteria identified as the most important to women for patient satisfaction, including early elective deliveries.
