PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee and Governor’s Workforce Board Chair Constance Howes have awarded more than $1 million in matching training grants to Rhode Island employers.

The grants, which range in size from $2,800 to $40,000, are financed by the state's job development fund and are intended to be used by grantees to help build the skill sets of existing employees.

For the first time, the Governor’s Workforce Board included financial incentives for youth internships in its grant application to help provide “much-needed work experience for the next generation of [Rhode Island] workers,” said a release announcing the awards.
