Why did you select your profession?
Becoming a college professor is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I can explore in depth the topics I love. I learn from colleagues who are often among the best in their field. I travel around the world to make friends with similar research interests. I interact with bright, young minds who keep me enthusiastic and energetic. And, as an added bonus, I get paid.
Where do you see yourself professionally in 10 years?
I am less concerned about the specific positions I will hold but rather the impact I can make.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
I got this advice from a senior physics professor: “As a woman in engineering, you can have a happy family and successful career, as long as you creatively find the path and patiently work toward your goals.” •
