When manufacturer James Starkweather and insurance professional George Shepley decided to join forces back in 1879 in an attempt to change the way people in Rhode Island thought about insurance, little did they know the impact they would have in the state.
In a letter on her company’s website, Emily Harrington, CEO of staffing firm Qualified Resources International, said she decided to launch the newest incarnation of Qualified Resources after selling the original in 2009 because she “understood every facet of the business.” And seeing as the 4-year-old Cranston-based Qualified Resources is not only on Providence Business News’ list of fastest-growing companies – but also up a spot from last year – that statement seems to be proven true.
Headquartered in Warwick, Automated Business Solutions, an office equipment provider and servicer, has been in business for more than 20 years. For a small business, that kind of staying power would be a testament to success in and of itself. But what is particularly impressive about ABS is the fact that despite a still-sluggish economy, it saw 36 percent growth from 2011 to 2013.
Five-year-old Provdotnet LLC, which provides data-center solutions to Alex and Ani LLC, Atrion SMB and 7-Eleven, among others, is enjoying remarkable growth. By parlaying its expertise in data-center services, the company realized a nearly 300 percent increase in revenue from 2011 to 2013, with year-end 2013 revenue of $1.2 million. Provdotnet is continuing to see gains and expects sales of nearly $2 million in 2014, said Ron Sacks, CEO and managing partner. It’s a number that the firm is likely to see. A year ago, Sacks and company predicted 2013 revenue of between $1 million and $1.5 million.
