Francis A. Connor III, a partner at Barton Gilman LLP, will be featured in the peer-reviewed publication Best Lawyers in America 2015. This is Connor’s fourth consecutive year receiving the designation. Connor is a trial and appellate attorney who specializes in representing clients in business and insurance litigation, as well as professional liability matters. William C. DeWitt, partner at HCC Marketing, was recently re-elected president at the Financial Marketing Association. DeWitt has more than 20 years of experience in advertising, working for major companies like Citizens Financial Group and Bank Rhode Island, as well as leading advertising agencies such as Arnold Worldwide and Deutsch. In 2010, he joined the full-service marketing communications company HCC Marketing. DeWitt is a member of the Barrington Town Council, as well as the board of directors for Girls Scouts of Southeastern New England. He is also a consultant to the Barrington Adult Youth Team (Anti-Drug Task Force). He holds a B.A. in economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Duke University. more
Denise Gautreau recently joined New England Institute of Technology as an instructional designer, where she will help increase the school’s online presence by offering online learning experiences for students. Previously, Gautreau has researched subjects such as electrical engineering and biochemistry and has also worked as a scientist for Pfizer Global, researching pharmaceutical treatment for obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Gautreau holds a B.A. in biology from Rutgers University, an M.S. in zoology from the University of Rhode Island and an M.Ed in instructional design from the University of Massachusetts Boston. more
Michael Noonan is a clinical instructor for the University of Rhode Island’s physical-therapy program, as well as the founder of the family-run practice, Physical Therapy Services of Rhode Island. He comes from a long line of health professionals, which influenced his love for helping others. Noonan utilizes a holistic approach, which can eliminate the need for more drastic interventions such as heavy medications or surgery. Noonan is also a pastor at Living Truth Church in North Kingstown and he holds a B.S. in physical therapy from Marquette University and an M.S. in business management from Cardinal Stritch College. more
Dee Southerland, broker associate at Williams & Stuart Real Estate, recently received Rhode Island Housing’s Realtor of the Quarter Award for the third time since she became a Realtor in 2004. Southerland is a Providence native whose specialty is assisting first-time homebuyers. She is driven by being able to facilitate individuals with the both exciting and daunting experience of settling into a home for the first time. Southerland is a graduate of LaSalle Academy. She is currently pursuing a CRS certification. more
Merrill W. Sherman was recently honored with the United Way of Rhode Island’s Tocqueville Society Award in recognition of more than 15 years of generous contributions of both time and resources as a member of UWRI’s Tocqueville Society. Sherman has received recognition for both her professional and personal accomplishments, including Citizen of the Year by March of Dimes in 2007. She has served as a director for several organizations, including Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Providence & Worcester Railroad Co. and The Providence Journal Co. Sherman also helped spearhead the creation of Bank Rhode Island in 1996 and served as the president and CEO of BanCorp Rhode Island Inc. until 2012. Sherman continues to provide leadership roles for several educational, civic and philanthropic institutions and she was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 2007. more
