Providence-based Care Thread says it has a secure way for surgeons and nurses to coordinate patient care on their phones and through social media, instead of outdated pagers. “We are a secure social network, connecting the care team to each other, so they can … bring the patient into the conversation,” said company President Nick Adams, above left. The company has developed a mobile health-records app that can be used to immediately notify doctors when a patient is admitted or discharged. Middletown-based Vizsafe is drawing on the age of social media to help improve public safety. Founded in 2012, company offers a Twitter-like app of the same name aimed at boosting community engagement, allowing smartphone users to upload photos and videos that could aid public safety efforts. Books on the Square Manager Jennifer Kandarian rings up Katherine Schoppel of Providence. The Wayland Square business is a throwback to a time before digital technology changed so much of the publishing landscape. The bookstore founded in 1992 is a brick-and-mortar survivor, with a strong focus on fiction and children’s books. Owners Rodney and Mercedes Clifton bought it out of receivership in 2007 and after some lean years say the business is now breaking even. more
