To the editor: Your reporter did a terrific job (in a story in the Nov. 4 edition) ferreting out some of the nasty facts about the Wickford and Warwick train stations and the picture taken from the empty top floor of the Wickford “choo choo” station says it all. There are more cars at the Walmart next to Wickford station than will ever be at the station and every year the state pays an additional $721,659 to the owner on top of the $311 million to build these tombs. Wow! more
BOSTON – A New York-based trucking company has agreed to pay $325,000 to settle claims that it failed to pay the Mass. Department of Environmental Protection fees covering the costs of handling and transporting oil and other hazardous wastes within the commonwealth, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced last week. more

WAREHAM, Mass. – The Cape Cod Flyer train service to Hyannis will become an annual feature and will include a new stop in Wareham, The Standard-Times of New Bedford reported last week. The newspaper also said a study to determine the feasibility of year-round weekend service was planned. more
There are plenty of seats available on trains heading to and from Rhode Island’s commuter-rail stations in Warwick and North Kingstown this fall. Empty parking spaces in the large, new garages next to those stations are also abundant. more
